An extra five million euro in funding’s been announced to tackle crime and burglaries in particular.
A national anti-crime strategy called Operation Thor is being launched today by the Garda Commissioner and Justice Minister.
It’s estimated that the funding will allow an extra 100 thousand patrol hours by Gardai in local communities.
High powered cars are being made available to the armed Regional Response Unit for the first time.
Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan said the operation would go a long way in helping frightened communities.
