The trial of a man accused of murdering a homeless man in Phoenix Park has heard his alleged victim had €145,000 euro in his bank account.

Ciaran Moran formerly of Camden Hall, Camden Street denies murdering Gerard Donnelly in November 2013.

Gardai found Gerard Donnelly’s body on fire near the Wellington Monument in the Phoenix Park in the early hours of November 29th 2013.

An aerosol can was found next to him. He had a v-shaped wound on his thumb and one of his toes was freshly amputated.

The State Pathologist concluded he died from blunt force trauma to the head, possibly caused by a lump hammer found at the scene.

Gardai had come into contact with the homeless man beforehand. He had €8k in cash on him and a bank book with a balance of €145k.

Another homeless man, 29-year-old Ciarán Moran pleaded not guilty to Mr. Donnelly’s murder this morning. His trial is expected to take up to two weeks.
