Motorists With Old Cars To Find It Harder To Get Insurance

Motorists with old cars will find it harder to get insurance cover as two companies are refusing to cover vehicles 15 years or older.

The move by Aviva and Allianz means up to 250 thousand car owners with a car registration before 2000 will be limited in where they can get cover.

The companies claim such cars carry a higher risk and are more likely to be used to make fraudulent claims even if the car has a valid NCT.

The decision comes despite official data suggesting that dangerous vehicles are linked to just a small fraction of all fatal and serious collisions.

Existing policy holders will not be affected but the Consumers Association says the move will restrict competition in the market.
