An international investigation involving the gardai has uncovered a 50 million euro haul of drugs hidden in a shipment of bananas.
A large part of the haul, found in the UK, was headed for Ireland.
The 300 kilos of cocaine was found on a cargo ship in Portmouth Port on Monday
The drugs were hidden in a shipment of bananas which had come from Columbia.
The sting involved the Garda Drugs Unit and British National Crime Agency.
The phones of major Irish criminals living abroad were bugged in order to gather intelligence.
Its a major pre Christmas blow for the gangs who its believed had come together to finance a portion of the shipment.
