Met Eireann has confirmed that the weather last month wasn't nearly as good as expected.
Malin Head in Donegal had its wettest May in 120 years.
Similarly, the Atlantic coastal areas and some Midland stations reported double or more their average rainfall for the month.
The whole country went through below average temperatures, with many reporting the coolest conditions in almost 20 years.
Overall, Mer Eireann summed up this year's spring as wet, cool and sunny.
