A Tallaght man, involved in the killing of 16 year old Melanie McCarthy McNamara, has had his jail sentence reduced.

Keith Hall's prison term has been lowered from 20 years to 17-and-a-half on appeal.

In 2013, he pleaded not guilty to the murder of Melanie, but guilty to manslaughter - a plea which was accepted by the State.

The 16 year old had been sitting in a parked car with her boyfriend on Brookview Way in February 2012, when a car pulled up beside them and two shots were fired.

She was hit once in the head and was rushed to Tallaght Hospital but died from her injuries.

Keith Hall wasn't the gunman, but he helped in events prior to and after her death.

Today in the Court of Appeal, Hall's barrister said the 26 year old has been assaulted twice in prison – with one attack leaving him with facial scars.

The judges reached their decision based on mitigating factors including Hall’s previous drug addiction, dysfunctional background and guilty plea.
