A nurses union is calling for the Mater Hospital to go off-call today due to severe overcrowding in the Emergency Department.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says its trolley watch figures showed 29 patients on trolleys this morning, but it has since learned there are 45 admitted patients waiting for a bed.
The INMO is meeting management today and an emergency meeting of members will take place afterwards.
It's after nurses across the country voted by 92 percent in favour of industrial action because of severe overcrowding across all 25 Emergency Departments.
The strike will take place on the 15th of December.
