A man is due to be sentenced this morning for the rape of a woman with Down Syndrome.
The 34 year old was convicted last month of the assault at his flat in Dublin in 2013.
During this five week trial the court heard the woman with Down Syndrome and aged in her 20s had been out jogging with her mum when they became separated from each other.
It was the prosecution’s case that Faisal Ellahi who is originally from the Haripur region of Pakistan had then lured her back to his flat and raped her.
The jury found him guilty last month and Judge Tony Hunt told them their decision was absolutely correct.
He said Faisal Ellahi tried to fool the jury and congratulated them for not falling for it.
The accused will be sentenced this morning.
