A man will be sentenced today for raping and sexually assaulting his girlfriend while she was asleep.
He was arrested after he sent her an e-mail admitting what he’d done.
The woman says she still has nightmares about what happened to her and no longer sees her bed as a place of “rest and sanctuary”.
The couple moved into a city centre flat a few months after meeting in a bar on Dame Street in May 2011.
Around Easter time 2012, she awoke one night and realised he’d had sex with her while she was asleep.
The same thing happened a few weeks later.
In a lengthy e-mail after they broke up, the man, who can’t be named to protect her identity, admitted raping and sexually assaulting her and she showed his confession to Gardai.
He’s due back in court again later this morning when he’ll find out what sentence he’ll have to serve.
