A man's been taken to Beaumont Hospital with serious head injuries after falling on rocks in North County Dublin.

It was one of two cliff rescues carried out by the Irish Coast Guard in Howth yesterday.

The first call for the team was at 4pm where a man going shore fishing slipped ten meters after descending to rocks at Balscaden.

The casualty who had serious head injuries was winched aboard the Coast Guard helicopter and taken to hospital.

In the second incident a tourist was rescued after he got trapped at Whitewater Brook near the Baily lighthouse.

He had gotten confused on returning from a beach below and found himself unable to ascend or descend from a steep cliff face.
