A man has been questioned by Gardai investigating an alleged sexual assault in Dublin on one of the busiest Christmas party nights of last year.

A woman told officers she was attacked in a taxi in the Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Merrion Road and Serpentine Avenue areas on Friday the 9th of December.

She described the suspect as being in his late twenties or early thirties, with a short beard, glasses, short dark hair and a short sleeved shirt.

A man in his thirties was arrested last Thursday, but released without charge after a day of questioning.

Investigating officers have also seized a car in connection with the investigation.

Gardai previously appealed to speak with anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the the Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Merrion Road, Serpentine Avenue area of Dublin 4 on the 9th of December 2018.

They are keen to speak with people who spent time in those areas between 12:45am and 3:44am on the 9th of December.

Gardai also appealed to speak with anyone who saw an injured woman in the Mountjoy Square area between 02:14am and 03:44am that night.

Any motorists with relevant dash-cam footage are being asked to offer it up to a Garda station, and anyone who has any other information they believe may help in the investigation is being asked to contact Gardai.

Witnesses or any person who can help are asked to contact Irishtown Garda station on 01-6669600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
