The 27 year old man who died after an assault in Temple Bar on Thursday night has been named as Gareth O'Connor.
The Herald are reporting that he was a father of three from Clondalkin.
O'Connor suffered serious head injuries during an attack on Cow's Lane, and was taken to St James' Hospital. Gardai confirmed he lost his life last night.
In a Facebook post, his local football club paid tribute to their friend.
"Terrible news to hear of the passing of one of our players earlier today. RIP Gareth 'Garzy' O Connor. We will all miss you so much."
Four men who were arrested at the scene were released without charge this morning, and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.
Gardai say they believe some people may have filmed the attack on their phones, and are urging any witnesses to come forward.
A post mortem is due to take place later today.
