Gardai investigating a gangland-style murder in Tallaght have made a breakthrough in the case.

Alan O'Neill was gunned down in front of his partner on Kiltalawn Road in Jobstown on the 27th of May. A car was found on fire close to the scene a short time later.

35 year old O'Neill wasn't known to gardai, but at the time officers were looking into whether his killing was linked to the drugs trade.

Two men aged 18 and 28 were arrested in the wake of the murder but were later released.

This morning a third suspect was picked up in the midlands.

The 23 year old is being held at Tallaght Garda Station where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
