A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of two north Dublin criminals two years ago.

Their bodies were found in a burnt-out car in Dundalk just hours after they were reported missing.

31-year-old Anthony Burnett from Croke Villas and 25-year-old Joseph Redmond from Ballybough were last seen in Dublin in the early afternoon of Wednesday March 7th 2012.

They were found dead inside a burnt out car at Ravensdale Park in Dundalk later that night.

Detectives at the time suspected the involvement of a cross-border gang with links to organised crime in Dublin.

Both of the victims had scores of convictions but they were considered petty criminals with no strong connections to gangland crime.

Gardai investigating the double murder arrested a man in his late 20's this afternoon and he was taken to Dundalk Garda Station where he can be questioned for up to seven days.
