After years of legal issues, Lidl has finally been given permission to build a new store in Castleknock.

Construction of a Lidl Supermarket, a medical center, cafe, retail units and 8 residential apartments will begin in April this year.

The 15 million euro development is expected to create 60 new jobs while over 100 construction jobs will be created during the building phase.

The development in the centre of Castleknock was granted by Fingal Co. Council in September 2016.

Since then it has been the subject of an appeal to An Bord Pleanála and most recently a judicial review in the High Court.

The store will be built as part of a "mixed development" and Alan Barry, Director of Property said he is pleased planning bosses have recognised that it "will contribute positively to the local area."

"Together with our architects and planners we have designed a development to the highest standards which I believe complements the area and provides suitable amenities for the local community."
