The front of a house near Tallaght has been badly damaged after being hit by a car.

It's understood a learner driver preparing for their test smashed into the wall in the Castletymon area yesterday.

A woman in her thirties was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A family living in the house on Saint Aongus Road were put up in a hotel last night.

South Dublin County Council is now trying to find them temporary accommodation while repair works are carried out.

Local Councillor Mick Duff said the car "just shot straight across the road" and "demolished the front wall".

He said it "literally came right through the sitting room wall, demolishing the wall, and the corridor of the house".

A man sitting in the front room at the time is said to be in shock, after some of the brickwork landed on his shoulder.

His wife and children were not at home.

"Had this been this time last week when the school children were on holidays, no doubt they would have been in the driveway", Councillor Duff said.

Gardai have confirmed their investigations are continuing.
