The jury in the trial of a woman accused of murdering an elderly man in the city has retired to consider a verdict.
Sabrina Cummins of Ringsend Park, Dublin 4 admits punching and kicking the 63-year-old but denies murder.
Thomas Horan was strangled and beaten to death at his bedsit at Cambridge Court in Ringsend in the early hours of Jan 6th last year.
Using her sister’s name, Sabrina Cummins dialled 999 and was waiting outside when Gardai arrived.
She claimed she was walking by the senior citizens’ complex when she saw his body through a window.
She was arrested a few days later. Her younger brother Kenneth was also charged with murder, and changed his plea to guilty a few days ago.
Yesterday, the jurors were asked to try and put themselves in Mr. Horan’s bedsit that night and use the evidence available to them to try and figure out what happened him.
Mr. Justice Tony Hunt told them they have three options. They can acquit the 37-year-old, find her guilty of murder or convict her of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
