Irish Rail says it’s investigating after a photo emerged of two teenage boys ‘scutting’ on a Dart in North Dublin.
The photo shows two teenage boys perched between two carriages as the Dart arrives into Killester station.
A rep from Irish Rail has described it as a very serious incident and has passed the footage on to Gardai. It says the practice, where people hold on to a moving train or bus, can have tragic consequences.
'Scutting' has also been reported on other DARTs as well as on the Luas. Bus drivers in Tallaght have also noticed it.
Local Councillor, Charlie O’Connor, says routes like the 27 in Tallaght could be pulled if the problem persists.
"It is creating a situation where the bus service is in jeopardy and the unions are saying to the company and indeed to us ... that the buses may be withdrawn and that's not acceptable".
"I come from a generation where scutting happens ... Thank God, I never did it but yeah, it is dangerous
Young people and parents are now being urged to be aware of the dangers of scutting before it results in tragic consequences.
