The Health Minister is said to be exploring the possibility of carrying out an independent inquiry into the deaths of four babies at the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

It comes as Mark and Roisin Molloy, the parents of one of the babies who died 22 minutes after his birth at the hospital two years ago will meet with TDs at Leinster House today.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has indicated an inquiry could be on the cards, adding that women attending the hospital need to have confidence in our health system.
