The latest crime figures have confirmed the start of 2014 as one of the bloodiest in recent years.
A total of 60 people were murdered in Ireland during that time.
It began on New Year's Day, when Dale Creighton was attacked on a pedestrian footbridge in Tallaght - he died in hospital the following day.
59 others were murdered in the three months that followed - up by over a third on the same time last year.
The figures were released by the Central Statistics Office.
The acting Garda Commissioner says the increase in murders and other homicide offences is a cause for concern.
The figures also show an increase in kidnappings and thefts as well as a slight rise in drug related offences.
