A housing charity’s taken a ghost estate on the Northside and turned it into homes for people on the housing list.

Cluid took over the running of the apartment complex in Belmayne and have refurbished 200 units over the last few years.

Helen Maguire and her adult son are one of the new residents living in the complex after being homeless for over eight months.

They were renting in nearby Darndale but the landlord wanted to move back into the house.

She was put on the homeless list and was nominated by Dublin City Council to the Cluid Housing Association who, after an interview process, offered her a two bedroomed apartment in Belmayne.

Helen moved in before Christmas and says it has everything “there’s two bedrooms, kitchen, an ensuite and a bathroom. It’s in the middle of everywhere, the hospitals, shops, bus routes”.

Karen Kennedy from Cluid says alot of work was needed to bring the units up to living standards saying there were leaks in the basement and many of the units weren’t fitted out with kitchens and bathrooms.

The charity is in the process of finishing the remaining 25 units at the complex which will be offered to people on the housing list as well as private renters by the end of the summer.
