The Environment Minister has met with a leading homeless campaigner for the first time.
Fr. Peter McVerry discussed the ongoing crisis with Alan Kelly.
The two have been critical of each other’s comments on the homeless crisis but they’ve never met.
This afternoon, the two finally held a meeting where they discussed the trust’s pre-budget submission calling for input from other Government departments on housing and rent certainty.
Fr. McVerry warned that if something isn’t done more families will end up on the streets before the next General Election.
The trust gave a cautious welcome to the Government’s announcement that they’ll fast track 150 modular housing units to come into use by Christmas.
The trust have also reiterated their call for the Taoiseach and Tanaiste to intervene and call the crisis a national emergency.
