The rate at which homes are being taken back by the banks is up by more than 500 per cent since last year.
New figures from the Courts Service show 586 repossession orders were granted by the Circuit Court in the first three months of this year.
That's compared with 95 in the same period last year.
The majority related to primary homes most of which were in Dublin.
It comes as recently evicted Brian O'Donnell says he and his family are trying to help other people facing pressure dealing with their banks.
The former solicitor made headlines last week when he and his wife left the Gorse Hill house in Killiney, and he handed the keys over to the Bank of Ireland boss at the bank's AGM.
Mr O'Donnell's planning to take a case to the European Court of Human Rights.
