Heroin, cocaine and cannabis worth over €1.1m have been seized in Dublin, and two people have been arrested.

Gardai intercepted two cars shortly before 3pm yesterday in South Dublin.

They carried out follow up searches on a third car and two homes in South Dublin and West Dublin.

They seized the drugs, as well as €28,000 in cash.

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were arrested and are currently being questioned at Tallaght Garda Station where they can be held for up to a week.

A garda spokesperson says: "As a result of ongoing intelligence led investigations targeting organised crime activity under Operation TARA, personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau supported by the Special Crime Task Force intercepted two vehicles shortly before 3.00pm in the South Dublin area on Sunday 20th November 2022.

"A follow up seizure of a third vehicle and search of two residential premises in South and West Dublin was conducted the same day.
"During the course of this operation heroin, cocaine, cannabis herb and cannabis resin with a street value in excess of €1.1 million (subject to analysis) was seized along with €28,000 in cash.
"One male (20s) and one female (30s), were arrested for offences pursuant to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84 and are currently detained, pursuant to the provisions of Section 2 of Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at Tallaght Garda Station, Dublin."
Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary of Organised & Serious Crime says: "This investigation highlights the drug trafficking activities of organised crime groups who are determined to supply all types of controlled drugs for financial gain.
"Investigators tasked with disrupting and dismantling such groups at national level shall continue to prioritise those organised crime groups, assessed to be causing the greatest harm in our communities nationwide.
"This operation has removed in excess €1 million of controlled drugs from our streets and significantly disrupted a drug trafficking organised crime group”.
