A street used in television shows like Ripper Street and Penny Dreadful’s been closed to production companies following complaints from residents.
Henrietta Street just off Dorset Street still looks the same as it did in the 18th century, making it popular with production companies.
But filming stopped there in November following complaints from residents and businesses that it was turning into a continuous film set.
Dublin City Council’s carrying out a review to come up with new rules for companies.
Independent Mannix Flynn said residents were fed up:
“While you may stop filming on Henrietta Street itself, filming continues in a number of the private houses and this is a contentious issue”.
Fianna Fail’s Jim O’Callaghan is hoping for a solution soon.
“I just hope that the independent mediator can come up with a solution because I don’t think it’s feasible in the long term to exclude Henrietta Street from filming in the city.”
The council’s Brendan Kenny said it was a complex issue but they hope to have an agreement before councillors shortly.
“We’ll come back to this committee and I would suggest we’ll call a special meeting if we reach a conclusion before the next meeting of the SPC”.
Filming was banned for six months meaning companies could be allowed back on the street in May.
