Half of all homes sold in Ireland are being bought by people who don't need a mortgage.
Savills, one of the country's biggest property firms, says 11,000 homes were paid for in cash between April and June.
The company's Dr. John McCartney described the typical cash buyer, saying "largely they're investors. The return they can get on a buy-to-let property greatly exceeds the amount they can get by putting the money into the bank on deposit".
The figures come as it's revealed more families became homeless in Dublin last month than any month on record.
77 families, including 151 children, were left with nowhere to go in July - most of them say the cost of rent simply became too expensive.
