Planning permission has been granted to develop three new buildings at the Boland's Mill site in Grand Canal Dock.

The 150 million euro development will be made up of office, residential, retail and cultural space over a two-level basement.

The project will also involve the restoration of a number of protected Mill buildings and the development of a new civic plaza on to the waterfront to Grand Canal Dock.

The landmark site is to be rebranded "Boland's Quay".

NAMA and Google are involved in the redevelopment, which will include the demolition of the large cement section of the old mill. The two stone buildings either side will be kept and incorporated into the new development.

Original plans for the three new towers had been rejected by planning bosses, over concerns too few apartments were being built and that the height of the buildings would add to high winds which are already a problem in the area.

Demolition works have already started and the entire development is expected to tak two years to complete.

There will be just 42 apartments in the entire complex, and they're likely to be snapped up for employees of nearby technology giants like Google or Facebook.
