Graham Dwyer has been moved to a different landing at Midlands prison after a run in with another prisoner.

The 42-year-old is serving a life sentence there for murdering Elaine O’Hara at Killakee Mountain in August 2012.

It’s been almost a month since Graham Dwyer was jailed for life for stabbing childcare worker Elaine O’Hara to death for his own sexual gratification.

He’d been held in Cloverhill prison since his arrest in October 2013 but was transferred to the Midlands Prison after his sentence hearing.

The Portlaoise facility is home to some of Ireland’s most dangerous sex offenders, and while Dwyer wasn’t convicted of a sex crime, his actions were fuelled by what the prosecution described as a “powerful and irresistible” desire to rape and kill.

He was originally placed in a single cell on the prison’s E3 landing but he’s now been moved after a run in with another inmate.

It’s not yet known what it was about but it’s understood he was threatened and he was moved for his own safety.

The former architect signed off on his appeal from Portlaoise prison last Friday and his attempt to have his conviction quashed could be heard before the end of the year.
