Prison authorities are investigating an alleged assault on convicted murderer Graham Dwyer.

The Foxrock architect is serving a life sentence in the Midlands Prison for murdering Elaine O’Hara in the Dublin Mountains in August 2012.

Graham Dwyer was jailed for life in March after a jury at the Central Criminal Court found him guilty of luring Elaine O’Hara up the Dublin Mountains where he stabbed her to death for his own sexual gratification.

Following his conviction, he was moved from Cloverhill to the Midlands Prison to serve out his sentence. In May, he was moved to a different landing after being threatened by a fellow inmate and it’s understood he’s now recovering from an assault at the hands of another prisoner.

His alleged attacker is a dangerous serial rapist, who was been behind bars since 2005 when he was found guilty of three rapes. The motive for the assault is under investigation, but today’s Irish Daily Star reports he was beaten after refusing to let him play in a poker game.

A prison source says the altercation was quickly brought under control and Dwyer only suffered minor injuries, and while he hasn’t made an official complaint, anyone who engages in violent outbursts within an Irish prison is subject to disciplinary action.
