A consultant has recommended Glenalbyn Swimming Pool be rebuilt on the same site. The Stillorgan pool was closed in 2013 because the roof was falling in.

It sat empty for three years before it was filled in in January this year amid fierce local opposition. Residents had been fighting to re-open, what's seen as a local institution, ever since the 2013 closure.

In May, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Councillors even debated whether to demolish houses and a library at St Laurence's Park to make way for a new facility.

Now Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown, Josepha Madigan is welcoming the publication of a new consultant’s report, which recommends the reopening of the Glenalbyn Pool where it stands.

“I’m delighted that the report, which investigated the possible use of an alternate site, supports the rebuilding of the pool at the existing site, which it found to be the least problematic. The pool was a focal point for all members of the community, of all ages, and the closure of the pool was a great disappointment."

The southside Deputy is urging local councillors to vote in favour of acting on the report's findings when they meet on Monday.
