Garth Brooks has issued an extraordinary statement after finding out two of his Dublin gigs have been refused permission.

Dublin City Council has told Croke Park it can only hold three of the five planned nights at the end of this month.

Tonight, the country superstar released a statement that said:

“I can’t thank the people of Ireland enough for how welcome they have made me feel.

I have faith that Dublin City Council will make the best decision for the people of Ireland. For us, it is five shows or none at all.

To choose which shows to do and which shows not to do, would be like asking to choose one child over another. However this plays out, Ireland has my heart and always will,”.

Shows on July 25, 26 and 27 have been given the go-ahead, but two more shows on July 28 and 29 cannot be held at Croke Park.

The fiasco has raised questions as to why promoters can sell tickets for events before a licence has been secured.

Tonight's statement from Garth would also appear to quash rumours that the country superstar had been looking to stage the rejected gigs at an alternative venue, like the Aviva.
