Gardai have thanked locals in Clondalkin for their understanding during an armed barricade in the area.

A full scale operation caused significant disruption to those living near St. Marks Drive yesterday.

The officers involved have thanked people for their patience, and their cups of tea and coffee.

A gun and ammunition were seized at the scene, and a man arrested is receiving medical attention while being held.

Superintendent Paul Dolan, who is in charge of policing in Lucan District, admitted the operation "caused significant disruption to the local residents".

"As Superintendent with responsibility for the area I wish to acknowledge to convey my gratitude for the assistance received".

He thanked local residents for their "patience displayed throughout the day at roadblocks, for their cups of tea and coffee".

Superintendent Dolan also thanked the Media, who were asked not to report the details of the operation until a media blackout was lifted late last night.
