Two Gardai have gone on trial for allegedly attacking a teenager as he lay handcuffed on the ground in Dublin.

Gardai John Mulcahy and Brian O'Connor of Blanchardstown Garda Station deny assault causing harm to Leon Sucliffe in the early hours of November 13th 2010.

Leon Sutcliffe told the court he was on the street with friends by a fire in a wheelie bin in Blanchardstown when a squad car pulled up causing the group to run.

The 21 year old who was 18 at the time said the first garda who caught up with him ordered him to the ground, kicked him in the ribs and handcuffed his hands behind his bank.

He says as he lay on the ground he received multiple hard kicks to his body and one kick to the face which caused him to bleed and his lip to burst.

The court heard he was brought by squad car to Blanchardstown Garda Station where he was denied medical assistance.

He said Gardai laughed and sniggered at his request for a doctor and told him you did that to yourself when you fell.

The trial has heard Leon Sutcliffe was released without charge after about an hour in a cell.

The trial is due to last 2 weeks.
