There has been a major breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Gary Hutch. A man has been arrested in Spain in connection with his shooting – the first in the Hutch/Kinahan feud.

34 year old Gary Hutch, a nephew of the Monk, was gunned down on the Costa del Sol a year ago. His murder sparked the current gangland feud which up to 9 other murders have been linked to.

The arrest comes as Spanish police release images of ongoing raids on the Costa Del Sol.

This morning, as officers carried out raids in Spain, Gardai here raided a number of buildings across Dublin, in the hope of uncovering evidence which will let them catch people involved in serious organised crime.

60 officers were involved in 6 raids at houses in Dublin 8, South County Dublin. Clondalkin, and Lucan.

The presence of Spanish Police Officers in Dublin is key; they've been helping Gardaí investigating the Kinahan Hutch feud for a number of months.

The Kinahans are based in the Costa del Sol, where at least two murders linked to the feud have taken place.

Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald, says Gardai have "An unrelenting focus on interrupting criminal activity, and the cycle of revenge and retaliation we’re seeing".

Gardai say they expect arrests in connection with the raids which are aimed at dismantling drug cartels.

Dublin's Lord Mayor Brendan Carr is welcoming the breakthrough, and has paid tribute to the Gardai's cooperation with Spanish authorities.

"This is something we've been calling for because for a long time they seemed to have a haven in Spain. The Gardai have obviously been doing a lot of work behind the scenes and I want to commend them on that."
