Gardaí are investigating if a Dublin criminal accidentally shot himself - before en route to a potential gangland hit.
Glen Clarke was discovered dead in the Riverdale Estate in Leixlip last month.
He suffered a single gunshot wound to his head and was found in a vehicle which had been fitted with false plates.
The 26-year-old from Cabra was found in the early hours of December 2nd and brought by ambulance to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he died.
Gardaí initially believed he had died by suicide after discovering a handgun in the vehicle.
However, detectives are now investigating the possibility that Mr Clarke shot himself by mistake.
One theory being investigated is that he was on his way to carry out an assassination on behalf of the Kinahan crime cartel.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
