Dublin City Council wants to team up with developers to build homes on five vacant sites.
According to the Irish Times, more than 30 hectares of land have been earmarked for the projects.
It's envisaged that they would provide large numbers of houses in the 'short to medium term'.
The idea is similar to the old Public-Private Partnership system, and the council is now inviting expressions of interest from builders.
Three of the site are on the north side, while two are in the west of the city.
The largest site is at the junction of Coolock Lane and the M1.
Site are also earmarked for the junction of the Malahide Road and Belcamp Lane, Bunratty Road in Coolock, Cherry Orchard and Kylemore Road in Ballyfermot.
