At least five people have been arrested after a violent stand-off between Ku Klux Klan members and Black rights' activists in South Carolina.

The groups gathered as the Confederate flag was removed from the grounds of the State House.

The flag has become controversial since its link to the gunman who killed nine black people in the Charleston church shooting.

Lines of police were needed to separate the groups and seven people were also taken to hospital.
