The Mayor of Drogheda has denied that his resignation from Fine Gael is a publicity stunt.
Kevin Callan announced yesterday that he was stepping down from the party in protest over water charges.
He's to stay on as Mayor but will become an independent member of Louth County Council.
Mr Callan's resignation came just 24 hours after mass protests throughout the country called for the charges to be scrapped.
