The first removals of victims of the Carrickmines halting site fire are taking place in Bray.

Ten people, including five children, died in the blaze just over a week ago.

Members of the Gilbert and Lynch families arrived at the funeral home on Boghall Road just after 4 this afternoon to pay their final respects to Tara, Jodie, Kelsey, Willy and Jimmy.

Large crowds of their extended family waited outside as a prayer service began. Their funeral is the first of two for the victims of the Carrickmines halting site fire, which killed five adults and five children.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Criona Ni Dhalaigh says the families need time to grieve for their loss saying "this was one of the most devastating things that could happen. My thoughts and sympathy are still with those who are recovering and those three families, who need time to grieve, coming up to the funerals".

She added that she’s not sure if she’ll be attending the funerals. "If I was asked to attend, yes I would definitely be there to represent the citizens of Dublin. There was a huge outpouring of solidarity and grief, there was a continous queue outside the Mansion House for two whole days with people wanting to sign the book of condolences".

The funeral mass for the five will take place at the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer on Main Street in Bray at noon tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the funeral for Sylvia and Thomas Connors and their three children will take place this Thursday and Friday in Dublin and Wexford.
