Dublin-based crime squads could be decentralised under a radical new policing plan.

The shake up is one of many proposed by the Garda Inspectorate,

It's after last year's whistelblower controversies sparked this report.

Allegations included claims that crimes like murder and rape weren't properly investigated.

The Garda Inspectorate's report will be given to the government soon but details have been leaked.

It's believed it will recommend setting up new regional serious crime squads, meaning national units based in Dublin would be decentralised.

Gardaí fear this could signal cuts to the number of senior officers.
