A father and daughter have appeared in court charged with public order offences arising from yesterday’s Right2Water protest.
A number of arrests were made after tens of thousands of people gathered outside Leinster House yesterday to voice their anger over water charges.
People came in their droves from all over the country to take part in yesterday’s Right2Water protest.
In the run-up to the demonstration, organisers said it would be a family-friendly march on Leinster House and Gardai appealed for peace.
For the most part, the protest did pass off without incident but at least six arrests were made for various public order offences.
A father and daughter were brought to court today after being arrested on Burgh Quay and D’Olier Street.
Stephen Bennett of Pearse Green, Sallynoggin was charged late last night and after being cautioned at Irishtown Garda Station, he said “It’s a sign of a morally and ethically corrupt Gardai to pull charges out of their arse”.
His daughter Saoirse Bennett was also brought into court in custody.
She’s charged with causing damage to a Garda’s jacket.
The court will hear full details of the alleged offences against them during their bail hearings which are due to get underway shortly.
