Emergency legislation is being prepared to close a loophole over the drink driving breath test.
A court ruled yesterday that the test is not valid if its in English only.
At the minute when a suspected drink driver is taken to a garda station the breath test machine will print out an alcohol reading in English only.
However the high court has ruled that it must be both in Irish and English.
It casts doubt on hundreds of drink driving cases before the courts, they could be thrown out or least deferred.
Now the government is set to prepare emergecy legislation to close the loophole.
A statement on the issue is due later.
