Five children and three adults were rescued from a fire in the capital last night.

The fire broke out on Thomas Court in the south inner city at around 3am.

Dublin Fire Brigade were called just after 3.20 by a person who managed to escape the blaze.

Eight people were rescued from the fire.

They were all taken to St James’s Hospital, with some later moved to Tallaght Hospital, where they're being treated for smoke inhalation.
