Dublin's crime rate 50% above national average

Dublin's crime rate is fifty percent above the national average.

The Irish Independent reports that several counties have seen abnomal spikes for certain offences.

The highest ranking offences in Dublin are fraud, robbery, theft, weapons and explosives. With drink driving the lowest ranking offence in the city.

County Waterford had a much higher incidence of rape and sexual offences, while county Kerry has a problem with drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Violent assaults are more likely in Donegal and home burglaries are more common in Louth.

While drink driving is a bigger problem in county Monaghan than elsewhere in the country.

The report also shows that one in twenty people living in Ireland has been directly affected by crime.
