The trial of a Dublin teen in Egypt has been put back again, after the judge failed to show up in court today.

Ibrahim Halawa has been imprisoned in Cairo for 16 months, and could face the death penalty.

The 18 year old from Firhouse was arrested along with his sisters while protesting in Cairo in August 2013.

His siblings were let go and returned to Dublin but the 18 year old has been behind bars ever since, missing his last year of school.

Ibrahim has been scheduled to appear at several mass trials, all of which have been put back.

Today's was postponed until January after the judge was a no-show.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says the Irish Ambassdor to Egypt met Ibrahim after this morning's hearing.

It added that the Embassy in Cairo will continue to help him while in custody, and to press the Egyptian government for his release.
