Students from Dublin are the least likely to get grants for college.

New stats show that those from outside the capital fare better at getting access to support.

College applicants from the capital are much less likely to get a grant than those from the rest of the country.

Stats analysed by the Irish Times show that 72 percent of Longford students last year got grants compared to 46 percent in Dublin.

The comuter belt fared a little beter wtih 48 percent from Kildare and 49 percent from wicklow successful.

Overall 64 percent of applicants got an award last year.

The regional difference could be attributed to higher incomes in the capital while student support groups say rise in grants awarded may be linked to falling incomes.
