A Dublin man who beheaded his mother and buried her dismembered body in a shallow grave in Edinburgh in Scotland has been ordered to stay in hospital.

Psychiatrists at The State Hospital in Scotland are still trying to assess 40 year old James Seamus Dunleavy's mental condition.

His trial for murder heard harrowing evidence of Philomena Dunleavy's final moments and he was convicted of a reduced charge of culpable homicide.

The woman from Marino was killed while visiting her son in Edinburgh last year.

Today the judge continued an interim order for him to be held under medical supervision to allow doctors to continue their work.
