A Dublin man who made hoax bomb calls so his friend wouldn't have to go to work has been ordered to carry out 200 hours community service.

Colin Hammond's actions shut down a motorway, disrupted air traffic control and stopped 4,000 Intel staff going to work.

The 21-year-old said he'd been drinking and taking pills with a friend who paid him €30 to make the calls to Intel in Leixlip in January 2015.

Hammond, with an address at Bath Road in Balbriggan, admitted making two 999 calls claiming there were bombs at the headquarters which would go off in 12 hours.

300 employees were evacuated, another 3,700 were stopped from going to work, a nearby motorway was shut and there was also disruption to air traffic control.

Hammond - who had clamied to be operating on behalf of Islamic State - was described in court as "profoundly stupid".

He's been told to do 200 hours of community service within 12 months, instead of two years in jail.
