Tributes are being paid to a Dublin freediver who has died while swimming in Egypt.
It's believed 39 year old Stephen Keenan from Glasnevin got into difficulty while trying to save a female diver in the Red Sea resort of Dahab.
It's reported she became disorientated underwater and Stephen went in to try and help her.
It's understood he suffered a blackout and died on the way to hospital.
Diving group Vertical Blue has hailed him as "a hero to the end" on their Facebook page.
"Today we received the tragic news of the passing of the strongest and most dedicated safety diver, and Vertical Blue's chief of safety, Stephen Keenan. It seems the ocean takes the best away from us.
He was a hero until the end, and died while providing safety for a girl who got into difficulty while freediving in Dahab's Blue Hole. Thank you for taking care of us for so many years Stephen. You will be greatly missed."
