Independent Newspapers has apologised to one of its former journalist Gemma O'Doherty as part of a settlement of a High Court action.
Ms O'Doherty from Shankill was made redundant by Independent News and Media in 2013 after an investigation into the wiping of penalty points.
Afterwards she sued for defamation but the case has now been settled for an undisclosed sum.
In an apology read out to the court, Independent Newspapers acknowledged Gemma O'Doherty's exceptional work for the Irish Independent and said she 'acted at all times in a professional and diligent manner'.
